Martha’s Vineyard Sharks Collegiate Baseball Summer Drop

 Game 3 of Southern Divisional finals will be August 6th 7pm at Sharks tank  Winner advances to NECBL Finals

In their first season competing in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks are the regular season Southern Division champs.

Seven players on the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks were named to the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) Southern Division All-Star team, the league announced on Sunday.

 Sharks win 11th Straight 

 Sharks continued the winning streak up to 10 games with 6-3 win over Newport. The Sharks record improved to 18-9 on the season and have a 2 gae lead in the Southern division of the NECBL. Austin Peterson went 5 2/3 strong innings for the Sharks ultimately Kyle Salley (DUKE) got the win in relief. Nander De Sadas got things started with a lead off home run finished 2-5, Brady Slavens (wichata) finished 3-4 with a homerun. Sharks host the Keene Swamp Bats July 12th 7:00pm at the Shark Tank come out early you wont want to miss any of the action....

 The Sharks won 9th straight on wednesday July 10th vs Mystic Schooners 9-5 to take control of the south. Daniel Hegarty (Kansas) earned the win with 6 strong innings, Matt Chamberlain (New Haven) was 3-4 with 2 RBI, Alan Bursed (Florida Southern) Hit a 2 run homer and Jackson Raper was 2-5 with 2 RBI. The sharks improve to 16-8 and will welcome Newport Gulls on Thursday for a southern division clash, first pitch is 7pm.

 Sharks defeated New Bedford on July 9th 13-2 to extend there win streak to 8 games and take share of 1st place in the South.During the streak the sharks have had a 8 run bottom of the 9th win with walk off homerun by Anthony Videtto (UMASS). They have also swept a double header on the road vs the Newport Gulls and 2 road wins vs New Bedford Bay sox. the Sharks play at home Wednesday July 10th, 11th, 12th and 14th with Wednesdays game vs Mystic whom they share 1st place with. South Kingstown, RI- Eight walks came back to haunt the Ocean State Waves, as the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks took advantage and took Saturday’s contest from the Waves 5-3.  

Xavier Vargas (Woodhaven, NY/ URI) would break open the scoring in the bottom of the second with a solo homerun to right center, his first of the year, giving the Waves a 1-0 lead.

The long ball would continue in the third. Matt Chamberlain (North Branford, CT/ New Haven) would tie with his first homerun of the year, but the Waves would respond with a two-run homerun via Casey Dana (Montgomery, NY/ Seton Hall), making it 3-2 Waves.

After tying it in the top of the fourth, Martha’s Vineyard would break the game open in the top of the 7th. Following two walks and a single, the Sharks would score on a very odd play. Dana would catch a pop-up, and continue over the temporary fence and out of play, allowing all runners to advance one base. Ryan Hogan (Saugus, CA/ St. John’s) would single, scoring one. Martha’s Vineyard would then score their fifth run following a throwing error from Daniel Seres (Canton, GA/ Kennesaw St).

The loss for the Waves is charged to Zach Fogell (Cumberland, RI/ Brown) who lasted one inning, giving up three runs on two hits and two walks while striking out two. The win for Martha’s Vineyard went to Daniel Hegarty (Leawood, KS/ Kansas), going six innings, allowing three runs on six hits, while only walking one and striking out five. Sharks improve to 1-2 on the young season dropping the forst two Gmaes 3-1 to Holyoke and 6-3 to Mystic. Sharks are on a five game homestand starting Monday June 10th.

Sharks Open the season on June 5th Vs. Valley Blue Sox 6:30pm at MVRHS Shark tank. The night will be celebrated as MV Little League night all Little Leaguers are invited to take the field and with the team prior to the Game. The Sharks have moved to the 2nd best league in the country The New England League.
