Russ Curran: President and General Manager, Martha's Vineyard Sharks

Russ Curran is the driving force behind the Martha's Vineyard Sharks, serving as President and General Manager since joining the organization in 2017. Under his leadership, the Sharks have solidified their status as a powerhouse in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), boasting the league's highest average attendance of 2,759 fans per game in 2025 and clinching the coveted Fay Vincent Cup championship in 2022 with a flawless 5-0 postseason run. A passionate advocate for collegiate baseball on the Vineyard, Russ has overseen the team's transition from the Futures Collegiate Baseball League, where they captured titles in 2013 and shared one in 2018, to NECBL dominance, all while fostering deep community ties that make the Sharks a beloved summer staple.

With a background rooted in business and logistics from his role at Carrolls Trucking, Russ brings a strategic mindset to team operations, from sponsorships and youth outreach to player development and fan engagement. A graduate of American International College, he embodies the Sharks' mission as a 501(c)(3) non-profit: preparing tomorrow's baseball stars for professional success while enriching the lives of Vineyard families.

Russ spearheads initiatives like the bat boy program in collaboration with MV Youth Baseball & Softball, internships for aspiring sports professionals, and player hosting opportunities that immerse college athletes in island life.

Always approachable and community-focused, Russ recently shared insights on the team's triumphs and future vision with the Martha's Vineyard Rotary Club in May 2024, highlighting plans for continued growth and innovation. Even in tough moments, like the epic comeback loss against the Newport Gulls in August 2025, he keeps the focus forward, rallying the team with his trademark optimism: "We put that behind us and focus on the one ahead."
