Shark Tank Playoff Game Tonight!!

Oak Bluff, MA August 5, 2025 The Newport Gulls surged to a commanding 14-7 victory over the Martha's Vineyard Sharks in Game 1 of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) Southern Division Finals, powered by a explosive offensive display that included three home runs and 10 hits. With the series now shifting to the Sharks' home turf, fans can anticipate an intense showdown in Game 2 tomorrow night at The Martha's Vineyard Shark Tank, where the Sharks aim to even the best-of-three game series.

Monday's opener at Cardines Field in Newport, RI, the Gulls wasted no time asserting dominance, tallying 14 runs on 10 hits while capitalizing on five Sharks errors. Michael Gupton led the charge for Newport, smashing two home runs and driving in four runs while scoring three times himself. Designated hitter A. Agresti added a home run and four RBIs, and third baseman Colby Wallace contributed an RBI while crossing the plate three times. The Gulls' pitching staff held firm, with starter Aiden O'Connell earning the win after allowing just two earned runs over five innings, and reliever Marcel Kulik securing the save.

Despite falling behind early, the Martha's Vineyard Sharks mounted a resilient comeback effort, scoring seven runs on eight hits. The offense was highlighted by first baseman Blake Binderup's three-run homer in the sixth inning, left fielder Carter Bentley's two hits and two RBIs, and shortstop Gio Colasante's two hits, including two doubles, and an RBI. In relief, Alex Grant provided a strong performance on the mound, striking out six Gulls batters over four innings while allowing just two earned runs amid ongoing defensive miscues. However, the Sharks' five errors proved costly, contributing to unearned runs for Newport, and the team stranded seven runners on base. The game lasted 3-hours, 8-minutes and was attended by 2,892 fans under clear, 76-degree skies.

The Sharks have proven resilient all season and will look to leverage their home-field advantage in Game 2 slated for tonight, Tuesday, August 5, 2025 @7:05PM at The Martha's Vineyard Shark Tank. Probable starters include Peter Dubie for the Sharks and Logan Olson for the Gulls, setting the stage for a pitching duel that could decide the series momentum.

A potential Game 3, if necessary, would return to Cardines Field on Wednesday. Tickets for Game 2 are available through the Martha's Vineyard Sharks' official website or at the gate. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for what promises to be a thrilling continuation of this rivalry in the quest for the Southern Division crown and a berth in the NECBL Championship Series.
