Sharks send 7 to NECBL All-Star GameSeven players on the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks were named to the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) Southern Division All-Star team, the league announced on Sunday. Vineyard manager Jay Mendez will coach the Southern All-Stars, having guided the Sharks to the league’s best record by the July 19 cutoff point. The game will be played at Montpelier Recreation Field, home of the Vermont Mountaineers, on Sunday at 5:30 pm. Alan Burnsed of Florida Southern was selected as a starting outfielder. Through 25 games this season, Burnsed is batting a robust .330 with seven home runs, 36 RBIs, 29 hits and 20 runs scored in 88 at-bats. Center fielder Matt Chamberlain (University of New Haven); shortstop Nander De Sedas (Florida State), catcher Nick Raposo (Wheaton College); and relief pitcher Nate Tellier (UMass-Dartmouth) were all selected as All-Star reserves on the 29-man rosters. Chamberlain has a team-best .331 batting average in 34 games and leads the division with 45 hits, along with four HRs, 28 RBIs, 36 runs scored and 19 stolen bases. De Sedas, a mid-season addition at second base and shortstop, has a pair of homers, 10 RBI, 21 hits and 16 runs scored in 87 at-bats thus far. Raposo is batting .320 with two HRs, 23 RBIs, 31 hits, 17 runs scored and 10 stolen bases. Tellier has a record of 1-1 with an ERA of 2.77, pitching 13 total innings in 12 appearances this season, earning five saves, striking out 27 batters and walking six, while surrendering nine hits and six runs (four earned). Sharks infielder Jackson Raper (Catawba College) made the Southern All-Stars as the Coach’s Selection. Raper has knocked in 26 runs and scored 21, with four homers and 35 hits, while batting .321. Sharks relief pitcher Tom Spinelli Florida Southern was also added to the Southern Division All Star team. |
